PLATFORM WARS is pleased to welcome three new researchers with a diverse range of empirical interests, geographical expertise and theoretical perspectives, helping us expand our critical understanding of the role of platform corporations in warfare.
Emma Caals began her PhD at the University of Antwerp in September 2025. She holds an MA in International Relations and Diplomacy, and her research focuses on the exchange of knowledge, technologies, and practices between Ukraine and NATO, as well as the broader implications of the Russian war against Ukraine.
Robin Vanderborght completed his PhD at the University of Antwerp in Fall 2025. It focused on the concept of “strategic stability” as an idea of technological peace, and how it legitimizes the possession and development of nuclear weapons. Since January, Robin has been working as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the PLATFORM WARS project, exploring the impact of European technology start-ups on the norms and practices of (algorithmic) warfare.
Milutin Djuraskovic began his PhD in January this year as part of the PLATFORM WARS project and the Realities of Algorithmic Warfare program at Utrecht University. He holds a master’s degree in Conflict and Development Studies from Ghent University, and his research focuses on how algorithmic technologies are developed and deployed in Gaza and Ukraine by a network of actors, and how their large-scale use is creating new forms of civilian harm.
